ARTWORK

Superbia

MATERIALS: Red marble and bronze

YEAR: 2014

SIZE: 120x50x30 cm

[Private collection A. Mazzon]

The first work of “Vizi Capitali” is the tallest of the series as to symbolize the superiority of a superb person. Its gaze and face are turned upwards as if to despise those below, perceived as inferior. The attitude I decided to depict this figure, also indicates the carelessness she addresses to the others.

The figure appears leaning forward and rises by stepping on the “knowledge”, symbolically represented by some books: Superbia thinks she knows everything.

Among the folds of her excessively decorated dress, you can catch a glimpse of a mirror, symbol of her vanity, and an apple, which refers to Eve’s act of disobedience, historically considered the first sin of pride committed by man.
